DR.HANIA EL HOURY (LB/DE)

Hania El Houry is a Munich-based art historian, archivist, and researcher with Lebanese-German (LB/DE) roots. Holding a PhD (Dr. phil.), she specializes in the fringes of academia, focusing on unconventional cultural heritage, historical inscriptions, and graffiti-like markings in public spaces. Her work explores Romantic-era traveller graffiti and inscriptions, particularly along the Nile in Egypt during the 19th and early 20th centuries. She is also the curator of munichgraffiti.com, a dedicated website documenting Munich’s rich graffiti scene—both historically from its pioneering days in the early 1980s and its vibrant current developments. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges art history, the archaeology of modern markings, and archive preservation, making significant contributions to understanding informal heritage—from ancient traveller inscriptions at sites like Abu Simbel to the contemporary and historical layers of graffiti culture in Munich and beyond.
